Toyota Polishes
Green Image [Torrance, CA] - In contrast to the heat carmakers
take from environmentalists for their gas-guzzling SUVs, conservationists
are lauding Toyota Motor Sales for a new Torrance facility
that could become one of the greenest in California. Toyota's
new 624,000-square-foot south campus features a 536-kilowatt
solar panel system that will generate enough electricity to
supply more than 500 homes. It is the largest commercial solar
energy system in North America, and that's just one environmentally
friendly element of the project. read

CEC Public Hearings
on Renewable Energy Program Dec. 12 & 13[Sacramento]-
The California Energy Commission is developing guidebooks
to implement its Renewable Energy Program (REP) pursuant to
Senate Bill 1038 (Sher, Chapter 515, Statutes of 2002). As
part of the public process, the Energy Commission's Renewables
Committee (Committee) will conduct hearings on the draft guidebooks
outlining the proposed structure for the REP overall as well
as the Existing Renewable Resources Account, Emerging Renewable
Resources Account, and Renewable Resources Consumer Education
Account. For a Summary of Major Changes proposed in the Emerging
Guidebook (includes Grid-tie PV), and further details on the
hearing, go

Million Kilowatt
Hour Challenge (MKHC) launched for Bay Area Schools -
Welcome to the Million Kilowatt Hour Challenge (MKHC)! As
part of this FREE fun and competitive challenge, youll
compete with other teens (6th - 12th grades) to promote energy
conservation in your home, school and community by getting
involved in projects that foster learning and energy change.
Certificates will be awarded to classes, clubs or individual
students who complete MKHC-sponsored Action Projects. $500
PRIZES will be awarded to various contest winners and schools,
classes or clubs that score the most Kilowatt Hour-Saving
Points! Our goal is simple: Were challenging Bay
Area teenagers to get involved in MKHC Action Projects
that collectively score 1,000,000 Kilowatt Hour-Saving Points
between October 1, 2002 and March 15, 2003. 1,000,000 kilowatt-hours
(1 million kWh) is roughly equivalent to the energy used by
150 average California households during one year. (Remember,
thats the "average" California home, during
"average" California conditions. Broaden the idea
to the entire U.S., and the world!) Start by requesting a
speaker from our Energy Experts Speakers Bureau
or jump
right in with one of the Action Projects listed on the EarthTeam
website
or create your own idea and submit it to the
MKHC! more
