IN BRIEF

The Solar Way
-PV on Indian Lands - New Publication from Sandia National
Lab. Excellent and inspirational! The many illustrations of
how photovoltaics are synergistic with the Seven Generations
philosophy, provide a powerful message for all of us. Caring
for the earth and the people on it, about future generations,
doesn't require 'energy sacrifice' today. In fact, photovoltaics
allow for an enhanced quality of life today, without compromising
quality of life tomorrow. view

Benicia students
take successful look into future [SF
Chronicle 2002.3.1] Three students from St. Dominic's
School in Benicia looked into the future, and the engineering
judges of Bay Area's Future
City Competition liked what they saw. Seventh-graders
Jenna Nunes, Ellen Quickley and Victoria Delgado created a
future city of 70,000 people who live in residential clusters
partially powered by solar energy and transported by gondola
to the economic center of town. They modeled their city on
the computer, then created a three- dimensional model with
the help of their teacher, Dolores Bond, and Benicia engineer
Mary Jane Fitzgerald. Their model was judged best among 28
that were submitted by students at Bay Area schools.
