San Francisco
issues Solar RFP for Moscone Center. Interested firms
are invited
to submit proposals to the City and County of San Francisco
for its first major solar energy project. The prime objective
of the work will be to provide a fully operational photovoltaic
(PV) energy system atop two roofs of the Moscone
Convention Center, along with possible other renewable
and energy efficiency technologies to supplement SFPUC and
Hetch Hetchy electric power resources. It will be installed
in this centerpiece facility for the City and its visitors
as a contribution to energy resources and the environment,
and demonstrate the City's commitment to promoting renewable
energy. Bids due March 19th, 2002.

Santa Monica
PV roof project to proceed on Airport Administration Building
- The City of Santa Monica is proceeding with a plan to include
a photovoltaic system as part of a re-roofing project of their
Airport Adminstration Building. The total sloped roof area
is 215 feet by 76 feet. However, only the south facing section
will be available for the system, which suggests an overall
area for photovoltaics of under 50% of this space. Based on
a crystalline solution, a PV system size of around 45-50 kilowatts
is anticipated. It is anticipated that the system will be
raised on a pedestal and a reference solar panel type is included
in the Bid documents. The responding Roofing companies will
be the candidates for the prime contract, with PV companies
fulfilling the sub-contractor role. The Bid package inclusive
of the Plans and specifications can be purchased at the City
Hall Engineering Counter located at 1685 Main Street, Santa
Monica, California, Room 112 or by phoning 310 458 8721. The
City of Santa Monica is located adjacent to Los Angeles, California.
There is a mandatory pre-bid job walk on Tuesday
February 19 at 2pm at 3200 Airport Ave. The bids are
due March 4, 2002 at 2:30pm.
