SMA receives UL Listing for 1800 Watt Sunny Boy string inverter
source: press release 2002.5.10
GRASS VALLEY, CA: May 10, 2002 - SMA America, Inc. is pleased to
announce that its 1800 Watt grid-tied, string inverter has been
certified to meet the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) Standard 1741. The UL 1741 Standard includes the requirements
of IEEE 519 for power quality, and IEEE 929 for interconnection
to the utility grid. The SWR 1800U joins the Sunny Boy 2500U as
the second of SMA's string inverter family to receive UL listing
to date. All Sunny Boy inverters for the US market include a 5 year
warranty as a standard feature at no extra cost. The UL Listing
and the standard 5 year warranty means that the SWR 1800U meets
certification requirements for the California Energy Commission's
buy down program as well as similar rebate offers.
The SMA String Inverter has revolutionized the solar industry for
residential and commercial applications. The modular string inverter
concept offers several advantages over other traditional designs
making it the preferred choice for both small residential and large-scale
commercial applications. Prior to the development of the string
inverters concept, large-scale grid-tied solar systems were custom
designed to unique specifications, increasing system cost, complexity,
and maintenance. SMA's modular String inverters offers a standardized
option for PV system integrators, allowing them to easily design
and install PV systems of virtually any size. The inherent redundancy
and modular nature of the string inverter concept provides higher
plant reliability and greater energy yield than traditional large
centralized inverter designs.
The UL Listing of the SWR 1800U now makes it easier and more affordable
to install smaller PV systems. The Sunny Boy SWR 1800U is backed
by years of reliable performance and joins thousands of other family
members already providing reliable power for over five megawatts
of installed photovoltaic capacity for commercial applications throughout
North America," said John Berdner, President of SMA America.
"UL Certification on the PV SWR 1800U will make installing
solar power at a residential level more viable than ever before."
· The SWR 1800U is recommended for arrays of up to 2200
Watts (STC).
· The peak efficiency is 93.5% (for CEC rebate purposes)
· The maximum power tracking window is from 140 Vdc to 400
Vdc (absolute maximum).
· The ac output voltage is 120 Vac, 60 Hz for use in both
residential and commercial systems.
