LOS ANGELES--Oct. 28, 2001-- More than 3,000 runners competed at Griffith Park in the second
annual ``Run for a Green LA'' this morning.

The event included three types of races (5K/10K, 7.8-mile trail run and Kiddie Fun Run) for runners of all ages and served as an
official warm-up for the Los Angeles Marathon. The event featured a festival for the entire family with more than 60 environmental
displays, live entertainment, food and prizes. ``Run for a Green LA'' also included cash prizes for the Green LA costume contest.
Bill Nye the Science Guy was the celebrity Master of Ceremonies.

``The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power takes its role as community leader very seriously,'' said Kenneth Lombard,
president of the Board of Water and Power Commissioners. ``We are proud to host this run and festival, which promotes the
benefits of the Green LA programs. This event is co-sponsored by more than 20 corporations, non-profit organizations and
governmental agencies. We hope to sponsor this event for many years to come.''

He added that there were several running teams including one from the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Lombard said that the
Fire Department also brought a fire truck to the event and raised funds to assist families of fallen New York City firefighters. He
said that the LADWP presented the Fire Department with the ``Spirit of Green LA Community Award'' and also provided support
for their fundraising efforts.

``The Green LA Program works to enhance air quality, sponsors efforts to use resources more wisely, provides new clean
renewable energy to Los Angeles, beautifies school campuses through the `Cool Schools' program and sponsors a myriad of
recycling efforts,'' said Angelina Galiteva, LADWP director of strategic planning.

She said that the LADWP Electric Vehicle Program, part of the Green LA initiatives, has installed more than 400 charging stations
throughout the city and offers customers special electric rate discounts to charge their electric vehicles.

Runners and festival participants had opportunities to ride electric vehicles (Evs) as they were shuttled to different areas through a
fleet of LADWP Evs ranging from a shuttle bus and vans to sports utility vehicles. Static displays of electric vehicles included
EV1s, bicycles and scooters.

Green LA includes the highly successful Green Power for a Green LA program that gives LADWP customers the opportunity to
help bring new clean energy resources to the city. To date, 95,000 customers have signed up for green power making it the largest effort of its kind in the nation.

The green power program replaces electricity from polluting power plants with energy generated from renewable resources, like the sun, wind and water.

Customers who sign up for green power, receive free energy efficiency products and services provided by LADWP. These energy efficiency measures help lower
usage so that the electric bill can remain about the same even though the basic cost for the green power is $3 a month for the average residential customer.

In addition to Green Power, the Green LA Programs include 14 separate energy efficiency initiatives, many with incentives to help lower costs for electricity. The
Green LA program also includes the Solar Power incentive program of $4.50 to $6 per watt installed. The incentive program can reduce the cost of a solar system
by more than half.

Co-sponsors of the Run range from Loyola-Marymount University, Los Angeles World Airports, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, Spectrolab,
Toyota Fleet to Guess, 3M, Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage, KFWB, New Basin Blues, KRTH,
YMCA and Odwalla.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power serves more than 3.8 million people in Los Angeles and was established almost 100 years ago to provide the
water and electric needs to the city's businesses and residents. LADWP is a recognized local and national leader in sponsoring programs to enhance the success of
the youth of Los Angeles, especially in school education activities.
