Schott Applied Power Corporation’s Grand Opening celebration for their new facility in Rocklin, CA will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2001, from to 3:30-5:30pm. The event is scheduled to coincide with UPEx'01: the Photovoltaic Experience Conference and Exhibition held this year in neighboring Sacramento from September 30th to October 4th. All interested media and renewable energy professionals are invited to attend.

"Sacramento is the ideal place for SAPC to enhance service to our traditional customers and to focus on the expanding PV market in California," commented Sam Vanderhoof, President of SAPC.

The 24,000 square foot building is located just outside Sacramento. Distribution, customer service, administration, and management are being consolidated at the new location. Shipping, receiving and warehousing are also being relocated to the new facility. A UL certified manufacturing operation is planned for the new site to assemble SAPC package systems such as MAPPS.

"Providing total customer care through enhanced sales, distribution and customer service operations is the objective driving this massive personal and financial investment," said Stephan Hansen, SAPC’s Chief Operations Officer.

New staff is being hired and a number of SAPC employees are relocating to the area. Twelve new employees have already begun working at the temporary location. More are in the process of being hired. Over the past six months, experienced PV industry professionals have also joined the SAPC team: Marianne Walpert, formerly of Pacific Solar, is SAPC’s Director of Utility-Tie Projects; Scott Williams, formerly of SunWize, is SAPC’s Director of Industrial Sales; Philip Leen, formerly of Solar Depot, has joined as Dealer Account Manager; Mary Shaffner, formerly of Trace Engineering, is the Director of Business Development; Stephan Hansen, with five years experience in Schott Corporation, is COO; and Ted Jeffcoat, formerly of SAIC, has joined as Controller. Sales and project offices in Waltham, MA, Tumwater, WA, Redway, Ventura and Willits, CA will remain active, continue to provide excellent service to SAPC dealers and customers.

"We are gearing up for the future. The new headquarters and key staff demonstrate our commitment to growing SAPC and the market for renewable energy," Vanderhoof stated. "We look forward to working with our partners in California, the US and the world, meeting the goals of SAPC’s mission statement: to accelerate the day when PV on rooftops is commonplace."
