WORKSHOPS for 2008

 

April 22 & 23rd Solar Schoolhouse Primer Workshops

April 22- 3:30p-6:30p - Solar Thermal Primer - Learn about the art and science of solar energy. What it means to the individual, society and the environment; learn how to incorporate engaging hands-on lessons into your classroom. Participants will discover the principles of heat transfer and solar home design. Build a solar cooker (made of cardboard) that exceeds 200F!

April 23- 3:30p-6:30p - Solar Electric Primer - Participants will experiment with solar electricity, discover it's history and applications, and learn how to integrate solar electric lessons in the classroom. You'll also build a solar electric musical WhirlyGig, - a solar kinetic sculpture to use as a teaching tool in your classroom. Take home a copy of the video and guidebook 'Your Solar Home' - an excellent introduction to the art & science of heating, cooling and powering your home with the Sun. Participants will also receive a copy of the book/DVD documentary on the Solar Decathlon - a college based solar home design competition.

Workshops are open to Educators grades 3-12. Lesson Plans will be provided for different grade levels & subject areas.

The boat race will be at Lake Skinner (near Temecula) May 16-18, 2008
Hoover HS competed in the 2006 event.
